As Mondays, it was a good one

Monday is probably the most hated day of the week, for obvious reasons. That first Monday back at work after a week’s vacation is especially heinous, which is what I’m facing today.

But you know what? It hasn’t been bad.

For starters, Brandon from Circulation walked up and handed me $25. “What’s this for?” I asked. “You won a quarter on the Super Bowl pool,” he answered.

Every year we have a Super Bowl in which the last numbers of each team’s score  are represented on a grid. Pick the right square and you can win $25 at the end of each quarter, or $100 at the end of the game. Squares cost $2.

I didn’t know I’d won. I’d stopped checking after the half. So this was a welcome windfall – heck, I may even deposit in my checking account!

Then Dorothy pointed out I had a box waiting for me under my desk. It arrived sometime last week. She wanted to know what it was.

We finally got the thing opened and darned if it wasn’t a mule of Sweetwater Brewery’s 15th anniversary special brew, and a fancy glass to drink it from. Why they chose me for this special honor I don’t know – maybe because once I was the Food section editor. Or maybe they’ve heard how much I like microbrewed beer. I don’t know. But I do know NOBODY else in this building will get his hands on it.
